‘I still adore Malta after 60 visits’   2014-09-20

John Hughes has lots to celebrate: he is turning 70 this year, is on his 50th holiday to Malta since the 1980s and is also marking the 50th anniversary of his first visit to the island back in 1959. If he could, he'd mark the 100th anniversary too! And he's on track, having already booked his upcoming trip in September...

Is it a lack of imagination or sense of adventure that has seen the man from Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire return to the island almost twice a year for the last 25? It may be a small world but, surely, it does not stop on this rock. There's no niggling been-there-done-that feeling and Mr Hughes cannot explain his magnetic pull to the island. "It's just because it's Malta!" He lists the culture, the friendly folk and even the buses as the main attraction.  robably, the selling feature is the sense of security the country inspires.
